Abstract

School children are a vulnerable group because they are more active, liable to poor health status, nutrition is the most affecting factor in academic achievement of school children. The aim of this study was to assess health status and nutritional pattern and their relation to academic achievement among primary school children at kafr sakr city in sharkia governorate. The correlational descriptive design was used conducting study on 350 grade 6 from primary schools at kafr sakr. Tools of data collection: first tool: included an interview questionnaire for assessing students’ socio-demographic data, health status and school academic level of achievement, and second tool using to assess students’ nutritional knowledge, habit and behavior. Results: the study revealed that, the primary school children have satisfactory nutritional knowledge and behavior and abnormal physical examination findings, level of body mass index of studied sample belonged underweight, there were significant relationship between nutritional knowledge, behavior and father, mother education and income of family. Conclusion there were significant relation between health status, nutritional pattern and academic achievement of primary school students. It is recommended that; Booklet contain information about balanced diet, nutritional needed of primary school children and complications of malnutrition., should be available in all health setting provide care for primary school children, Further study in other places to detect the relation between nutrition, health status and school achievement..
