Abstract This thesis introduces planning and evaluation of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems-based microgrid to supply Assiut University main campus with electricity. The thesis work starts with future electrical energy consumption forecasting process using two approaches that are Gaussian process (GP) tool and neural networks technique. This helps in rationalizing use of electricity and providing electrical energy supplies. This thesis also presents optimal PV systems sizing at the lowest cost according to the electric load demand data and suitable roof areas of Assiut university main campus buildings. Then, the operation of Assiut University distribution system with PV penetration, the designed microgrid, is assessed using seven indices-based new multi-objective performance index (MOPI). For comparative study, the proposed MOPI is also applied for assessing the operation of IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system that operates with same PV systems size to total electrical loads ratio, which has been decided for Assuit University microgrid. |
