Abstract

SUMMARY
This study was carried out on 60 females with depression not treated , 60 females with depression treated with Escitalopram and 60 healthy, age and sex matched volunteers. The patients and controls were included only if they were between 18-40 years, married, and sexually active during the past 6 months, able to read and give consent. Patients were recruited from females attending the Psychaitry outpatient clinic, with no prior intake of any treatment to control their symptoms. Control group were selected from women of the family members or relatives, accompanying the patients to the hospital.
This study aimed to evaluate the rate of SD among drug naïve women with depression and escitalopram receiving females . The participants filled out anonymous self-administered Questionnaire including socio-demographic data form, the validated The validated Arabic Female Sexual Function Index (ArFSFI), and Arabic version of Perceived stress scale (PSS) ,Arabic version of Center for epidemiological studies –Depression (CES-D) and Arabic version of Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used to evaluate patients. Male patener of all participants were interviewed to answer International index of erectile function-5.
After statistical analysis , Results were as follows:
• Our study had revealed significant differences between the drug naïve group ,escitalopram receiving group and the controls concerning PSS score, CES-D, PHQ-9 and IIEF-5 scores
• There was highly significant difference between the three groups regarding the total as well as individual domain scores, FSFI values were statistically significantly lower in the drug naïve and escitalopram receiving groups compared with the control group.
• Significant difference was observed between drug naïve and escitalopram receiving groups concerning duration of disease.
• There was significant correlation between disease duration and total FSFI score.
• Significant correlation was observed between PSS score and FSFI(total) score.
• There was significant correlation between CES-D scores and total FSFI score.
• There was significant correlation between FSFI score (total) and IIEF-5 score.
• Significant Correlations were found between PHQ-9 score and total FSFI score.
• There were significant correlations in control group between total FSFI score and PSS ,CES-Dand IIEF-5 scores.
• Significant correlations were found between FSFI (total score ), PSS,CES-D,PHQ-9 and IIEF-5.
There was linear regression analysis between FSFI score as dependent and PSS, PHQ-9 and IIEF-5 as independent predictors of FSFI.
