Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the possible slimming action of nabk (fruit, leaves & seeds) (Ziziphus jujuba), the brown algae (brown seaweed) (Saragassum filipendula), evening primrose flower (Oenthera speiose) at 3 & 5% levels in obese rat diet as well as their mixture prepared of equal powder proportions. A total number of 56 male albino Sprague Dawley rats used in 14 groups 4rats each . Obesity in rat induced by feeding on high fat diet for 28 days . At the end experiment biological ( BWG , FI , FER & internal organs weight) as well as biological and histopathological parameters studied .Feeding trial continued for 28 days. Biochemical analyses included phenol, and flavonoid compounds of plants , serum glucose determined. Liver function parameters ( GOT, GPT ,ALP) , renal function (urea, creatinine & uric acid levels). Lipids profile ( TC , TG , VLDL , HDL, LDL atherogenic index ” AI” ) estimated . Histopathological changes of heart , liver & kidney were also in the scope of this study. Results were statistically analysed and recommendations presented. The obtained results revealed the following : 1 - Phenol compounds showed variable amounts, maximum level revealed in nabk leaves powder 4128 ppm) which was 18 folds higher than in nabk seeds. 2 - Flavonoid compounds levels were considerably different in different evaluated plant .Maximum level ( 9396 . 19 ppm ) recorded in nabk leaves which was 475 folds higher in nabk seeds. 3 - In obese rots ( control ”+” group) BWG was much greater than for ordinary healthy ( control ” – ” ) rats , being about 6 times more in former than the latter group . mean while . BWG reduced when obese rats fed on experimental diets , specially that containing the nabk leaves . This may be ascribed to the high Lovell of antioxidants ( phenols & flavonoids ) . Brown algae diet followed that of the nabk leaves considering the slimming action . Combination of tested pants in one diet (mix diets ) did not reveal synergistic action considering BWG . 4 – FI was increased for obese rats . The higher the level of added slimming plants , the less the FI was found . Lowest F I recorded for nabk leaves , followed by brown algae diet . Mix treatment did not lower the FI of obese rats . 5 - Obesity raised the FER by 36 times which were declined when feeding on diet containing tested plants . Meanwhile , FER was higher at 5% plants diet than 3% , e.g. With more slimming , among group with experimental plant diet , higher FER calculated for brown algae followed by nabk leaves treatments which was affected by the antioxidants levels ( phenols & flavonoids) 6 - It was found that obesity raised the weight rats of internal organs ( liver heart & kidney) possibly due to in flamnations . Mean- while feeding on diet containing suggested slimming plants and their Mix lowered the weights in particular that of nabk leaves followed by brawn algae diets , specially at the higher level (5%) . No synergistic action recorded when all plants combined together . 7 - TC was raised in serum by obesity , the reverse , however was found when slimming diets , in particular nabk tree and brown algae treatment used . Mix diet revealed also lowering of the TC . Nabk fruit, evening primrose and nabk seeds diet revealed also lowering Some decrease of TC . At 5% level ,TC reducing action was more than at 3% level . |
