Abstract
Longtimeago,thelagoonwasexploitedwithconcessionaire.Theconcessionwasfirstgivenfortheperiodfrom1905to1911with1000LEyearly.In1911,theconcessionwasrenewedforeightyearswith1200LE,butin1914;duringWWI,martialauthoritieshadprohibitedthefishingactivitiesinthelagoon.In1924,theconcessionofthelagoonhasbeenleasedforfiveyearswith810LE(Fouad,1926).Uptill1925,therewerenostatisticaldatacollectedforthelagoonfisheriesproduction(Jenkins,op.cit.).Thelastconcessionaireworked inthelagoononeseasononly; from30Mayto 6November1925.Fishproductionduringthisperiodwasamountedtoabout200ton(Fouad,op.cit.).Theconcessionhavebeenleasedin1927toMr.Abou-Zikriwhoacquiredtheleaseforoperatingthelagoontill1967forfiveyearswith6050LE.In1932,forthecrisiswhichaffectedthecommercialactivities,theconcessionhavebeenrenewedfor3000LE.Fishproduction duringthe years 1930,1931and 1932was 335,360and320tonsrespectivelyWhile,lagoonfishproductionduring1933and1935wasabout26and49tonrespectively.Faouzi(1938)statedthatthelagoonfishproductionduring1934compensateditsproductionduring1935
