Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating effectiveness of Personalized Learning Model in developing critical reading skills. The quasi- experimental design was used. The participants were (57) second year preparatory stage pupils at Fatima Al-Zahraa Governmental Language School at Port Said. They were two intact groups: a control group and an experimental one. The instruments of the study included a reading skills questionnaire and a pre-post critical reading skills test. To identify and develop the most required critical English reading skills, a questionnaire containing some critical reading skills was designed and validated by TEFL specialists. Based on the selected skills, the researcher designed a pre-post critical reading skills test that was validated by the jury members. Both groups were pre-tested. Then, the experimental group pupils were taught using Personalized Learning Model whereas the control group pupils received regular instruction. The experiment was applied during the first term of the academic year2019/2020, both groups were post tested. The data obtained from the study has been analyzed statistically by SPSS program. Results revealed that Personalized Learning Model proved to be effective in developing critical reading skills of second year preparatory stage pupils.
