Abstract

The purpose of this work is to conduct an evaluation of how capable Avicennia marina mangrove is to sequester carbon vis-à-vis the availability of nutrients and salinity gradients along the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. To this end, several parameters have been measured, including the sediment bulk density (SBD),the concentration of sediment organic carbon(SOC),the density and pool of SOC, the carbon sequestration rate(CSR),and the carbon sequestration potential(CSP).Spanning a 1134-km stretch of the Saudi coast along the Red Sea, three locations in the north, centre and south were chosen to undertake this study.
