Abstract

The study aimed to designing a computer model for managing irrigation water under current and predicted short and long-term climatic conditions and helps in predicting the quantities of water required by each crop during the cultivation period and according to the cultivation area, using many models and scenarios of climate change. Also, aimed strategies development to cope with the negative impacts of climate change on agriculture. The program was named CAPIM, which is an acronym for Current And Predicted Irrigation Management Model. The program included three main windows, the first window is for determining the geographical area under study, the second window is the irrigation water management window under current climate conditions (IMMCC) and the third window is the irrigation water management window under the predicted climate conditions (IMMPC). The Oracle language was used to design the program through which data was stored and calculations were performed. Oracle Developer was also used as a tool to create models. The validity of the results was verified by conducting a statistical analysis and case study on different areas in Egypt and different crops. The results of the case study concluded that the expected total irrigation depths for wheat and maize in the future will increase compared to 2018 in Assuit, Fayoum and Dakahlia. Also, the results of irrigation scheduling for the both wheat and corn indicated that Fayoum governorate in 2040 recorded the highest irrigation rate for the two crops when compared to the governorates of Dakahlia and Assiut, as the number of irrigation times for the wheat crop reached 14 irrigation with a total amount (1273 mm / growing season), while for the corn crop it was 18 irrigation with a total amount (2035.7 mm / growing season). It was also found that the third strategy, which includes raising the irrigation efficiency by 5% and 10%, is a possible strategy for saving irrigation water in future. where the expected increase in crop productivity due to the efficiency increase by 5% and 10% is 9 and 18% for the wheat and maize crops, respectively.
