Abstract

SUMMARY
Hepatitis C infection is a significant global problem, about 2-2.5% of the world’s population (130-150 million people) are chronically infected with HCV, In Egypt, the prevalence is 10% and according to the last DHS in 2015 it was 7%.
In Egypt transmission form person to person is still active, there are many ways this exposure can occur, formal and informal medical and dental care are the most common causes of HCV infection in Egypt is from for example, injections of all kinds, blood tests or when blood is taken by syringe or by a lancet
Chronic HCV infection is accompanied by numerous extrahepatic manifestations that have negative impacts on patients’ quality of life, in particular, HCV infection has been correlated with sexual dysfunction in both men and women due to endothelial damage and decrease level of NO needed for normal erection
SD at HCV patients is due to HCV itself also due to the treatment of the virus, as well known that there has been a spectrum of treatments to target the public health disaster represented by the hepatitis C problem in Egypt ranging from the use of Pegylated interferon to the recent use of DAAs, Pegylated interferon alfa as monotherapy or in combination with weight-based ribavirin has been standard therapy for

chronic HCV infection ever since its approval, Although this treatment has shown moderate effectiveness, the high rate of reported and in some cases catastrophic adverse effects has been associated with reduced quality of life and poor adherence to therapy. Due to these unsatisfactory results, and given major psychiatric and hormonal disturbance adverse effects of pegylated interferon, as well as SD, especially in men, DAAs have been introduced to treat HCV infection. DAAs have shown promise as an alternative to pegylated interferon alfabased therapy for curing HCV infection without such bad side effect on the sexuality of the patient and nowadays this new DAAs drugs have been introduced to the protocol of treatment of HCV in Egypt over the past few years known as sofosbuvir and daclatasvir.
Our study included 200 patients with HCV infection who already received antiviral treatment in New Cairo viral hepatitis center, one of the NCCVH center. All patients were subjected to full history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations and abdominal ultrasonography and Appling Questionnaires (IIEF-5 & FSFI) to assess their sexual dysfunction in both males and females respectively
