Abstract

Self-compacting concrete was initially developed in 1998 in Japan to attain sustainable concrete structures .then, a lot of investigations have been performed and this type of concrete has been used in practical constructions in Japan . The extremely fluid nature of SCC makes it appropriate for placing in hard conditions and in sections with engorged reinforcement. The use of SCC also can facilitate decrease hearing-related damages on the worksite that produced by the vibration of concrete, another advantage of SCC is that the time needed to place huge sections is significantly reduced. Silica Fume is collected by filters as a by-product and it was used in our research as it is a high pozzolanic material. Many years of research and practical experience have demonstrated that silica fume which satisfies the requirements in this part of the European Standard has highly pozzolanic properties, and may be used to produce concrete with improved properties in both the fresh and hardened states. 2: - Research scope: - Replacement of Silica Fume by cement weight by 8% ,12%, 16%, and 20%,.and study the effect of replacement on properties and Strengths of Self Compacting Concrete Mixtures. 3: - Research objective: The main objective of this research is to study the effect of Silica Fume in durability of Self Compacting Concrete . 1. To provide a study about the fresh and hardened properties of Silica Fume self-compacting concrete. 2. To produce self-compacting concrete using silica fume with locally available materials in Egypt. 3. To provide more information about the effects of the percentage of silica fume on fresh properties like filling ability, Passing ability and segregation resistance and hardened properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and bending strength. 4. To provide more information about the effects of the percentage of silica fume on durability properties such as water permeability and chemical resistance. 4: - Steps Study: - The tests were divided to Four parts. first; tests to study aggregate properties and cement properties such as sieve analysis, specific gravity, Los Angles, and water absorption. second; tests on fresh concrete to calculate its properties and for this we use slump test. third; tests on hardened concrete to study its properties such as compression, tensile, bond, flexible, fourth: tests of durability properties of Self Compacting Concrete such as chloride resistance , Sulfate resistance and water permeability behavior . 5:- Summary of Study:- The results showed that using Silica Fume decrease the workability of concrete but development and improve the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, bond strength and SF improve durability strength such as chloride resistance , Sulfate resistance and water permeability behavior .
