Abstract

Phomopsis have gained much interest due to their bioactive metabolites. So, the biological activities of their secondary metabolites via antitumor, antioxidant, antiviral and antimicrobial tests had been evaluated. Depending on the construction of the phylogenetic tree, the three isolates are Phomopsis sojae KC343197, Phomopsis phaseolorum var.caulivora GU973739 and Phomopsis longicolla JQ899030. The antimicrobial activity of extracts of the three isolated Phomopsis strains showed that the organic ethyl acetate extract of P. phaseolorum var.caulivora showed significance inhibition against B. subtilis, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus. The antitumor activity, It was found that P. longicolla ethyl acetate extract exhibited more potential antitumor activity than other Phomopsis strains. The antioxidant activity showed that P. longicoll , P. phaseolorum var.caulivora and P. sojae aqueous extract exhibited higher antioxidant activity than the methanol extract of mycelia and ethyl acetate extracts. The antiviral potentiality of the ethyl acetate Phomopsis extracts against MS-2 and ΦX-174 bacteriophages showed the highest inhibition against MS-2 was in case of P. sojae , while against ΦX-174 was P. longicolla .In conclusion, Phomopsis spp. can produce bioactive compounds that contain antioxidant and/or anticancer and antimicrobial agents but further works are needed to study the mechanism and chemical contents or to enhance the productivity of these Phomopsis bioactive compounds.
