Abstract Vitiligo is a common skin disease with unknown etiology. It is multifactorial disorder that involves several theories about its pathogenesis. This study aimed to find out whether vitiligo is associated with alteration in the tissue expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in cases with vitiligo lesions using immunohistochemistry assessment of the tissues, as well as, to evaluate the relation between MMP-9 levels and, disease activity and duration, and severity of vitiligo. In this is a case-control study the individuals the patients who fulfilled the selection criteria were randomly selected and underwent complete history taking and clinical examination. The skin biopsies were taken from the two groups then divided into three groups one biopsy from the center of the lesions (group A) and the other biopsy from the clinically normal skin (group B) of the patient and the last one from healthy individuals who have no history of any chronic diseases or family history for vitiligo. |
