Abstract Sexuality is an important part of health and wellbeing. Sexual function is fundamental in the female life .Sexual dysfunction is a frequent problem and quite often underestimated in the community in general. It is defined as a disorder of the sexual desire, orgasm, arousal, or pain, which results in significant personal discomfort. Sexuality is still a taboo subject for most women. The sexual behavior changes during pregnancy interfering with the quality of life and disturbing the union of the couple. Pregnancy is a critical period in woman’s life and, at this stage, sexual life can be affected by many factors. Physical and psychological changes have a significant impact on sexual activity. The most common sexual complaints in pregnancy are decreased in desire, on pleasure and in frequency of intercourse. In the present study, we used FSFI to assess the female sexual function during pregnancy .The FSFI questionnaire was used in this study as, it is a valid and accurate measure of the female sexual function. This questionnaire comprises 19 questions that evaluate six different domains of sexual function including (desire – arousal – lubrication – orgasm – satisfaction and pain). The FSFI score ≤ 26.5 is the cutoff point for women with sexual dysfunction. The study was conducted on 500 healthy, sexually active pregnant women between June, 2019 and March, 2020 from obstetrics’ clinic in Menoufia University Hospital. |
