Abstract

The Kuwait shoreline was defined using Landsat satellite imagery; acquired from 1990 to 2015. The satellite image data acquired during high tide in the same period are used to produce the maps of shoreline changes with time. The Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) are used to study the changes 1 along the coastal water/land interface from multi-temporal Landsat images. Research scope: - This study is to provide basic understanding and to !promote confidence in the overall quality of analysis and results of the coastal environment changes of Kuwait. Monitoring of beaches provides important information about the state of the coastal system. Data from Both remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) from 1990 to 2014 are integrated in this work in order to monitor the envirbnmental changes of Coastal and Islands of State of Kuwait. 3:-Research objective: -The objectives of this work was to Explain the kind and effects of environmental shoreline change factors in Coasts and Islands of Kuwait.; Monitor the spatial and temporal changes in coastline of Kuwait (from 1990 to 2015). Finally, to provide recomm’endations that could be taken in the future in order to improve the current situation for management 1 of coastal zone in Kuwait. 4:- Steps Study :- The satellite image data acquired during high tide in the same perio are used to produce the maps of shoreline changes with time. The Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SA VI) are used to study the changes along the coastal water/land interface from multi-temporal Landsat images. Accuracy assessment are carried out for the classified land use imageries as extracted from the studied indices. 5:- Summary of Study:- Monitoring of beaches provides important information about the state of the coastal system. Data from Both remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) from 1990 to 2014 are integrated in this work in order to monitor the environmental changes of Coastal and Islands of State of Kuwait.
