المستخلص

This study was conducted to assess rate and risk factors of PTB and LBW in Mallawy district. The study was carried out in two medical centers, Mallawy medical center and MCH care center.
The incidence of PTB was found to be 27.5%. Risk factors that were associated with PTB were: extremes of age, working status, passive smoking, multigravida, short IPI, history of PTB and twin pregnancy. Also, maternal health conditions as hypertension, DM, bleeding, increased maternal BMI and violence found to be associated with higher risk of PTB. Hypertensive disorders, history of taking medication and antepartum hemorrhage were associated with the highest risk, RR= 4.043, 4.312 and 3.075 respectively. Smoking, gestational diabetes and working status came in the second place, RR=2.179, 2.386 and 1.595 respectively.
Regarding LBW, the incidence was found to be 32.4%. The current study showed that maternal working status, passive smoking, short IPI, history of preterm, twin pregnancy and PTB were risk factors for LBW. Also, low Hb level, hypertension, antepartum hemorrhage and low GWG found to be risk factors for LBW. On the other hand, the results showed that LBW not related to age of mother, gravidity, sex of baby, DM, history of previous LBW and violence. Twin pregnancy, hypertension and PTB were associated with the highest risk, RR= 2.288, 2.400 and 2.738 respectively. While, working status, smoking and small IPI were associated with lower risk with RR= 1.764, 1.664 and 1.770 respectively.
