Abstract

Photo Voltaic power plant is considered as one of the most important
renewable energy sources. For different regions and locations, climatic
conditions including temperature and solar radiation are continuously
changing which make it stochastic in nature. In order to efficiently integrate
these PV plants in power grid, intensive analysis should be implemented.
Contingency analysis during planning and operation phases guarantees
effective integration for PV plant. This thesis proposes a new probabilistic
contingency analysis tool to demonstrate the impact of PV plant uncertainty
from grid security point of view. For this purpose, a probabilistic model of
PV plant is adapted to integrate with contingency analysis algorithm. New
severity function for line overloading and bus voltage violation is introduced
to consider this uncertainty besides practical system operating limits.
Different study cases are discussed. They vary between different scenarios
firstly, comparisons of PV plant expansion in different buses simultaneously,
second, a comparison between integration PV plant in one bus and distributed
capacity between different buses. Finally, conventional generation plant in the
original grid is replaced by PV plant at same rated power.
