Abstract Sciatica refers to back pain caused by a problem with the sciatic nerve. This is a large nerve that runs from the lower back down the back of each leg. When something injures or puts pressure on the sciatic nerve, it can cause pain in the lower back that spreads to the hip, buttocks, and leg. Up to 90% of people recover from sciatica without surgery. A selective nerve root block (SNRB) injection is used to both diagnose and treat an inflamed spinal nerve. A medication, typically, an anesthetic or anesthetic with steroid is administered near the spinal nerve as it exits the intervertebral foramen (bony opening between adjacent vertebrae). The medication reduces inflammation and numbs the pain transmitted by the nerve. Aim of the work: The aim of the current study was to evaluate therapeutic efficacy of selective nerve root block (SNRB) in treatment of sciatica in patients attending to orthopaedic spine clinic in Mansoura University Hospital. These patients have failed medical treatment and physiotherapy for six weeks and have the inclusion criteria for the study. Study plan: This was a prospective study conducted on 50 patients over one year within the period from July 2017 to July 2018 in Orthopaedic Spine clinic in Mansoura University Hospital after obtaining the approval from institutional review board (IRB), Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University. |
