Abstract Background: Sacrococcygeal Pilonidal Sinus disease (PNS) is an infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue at the upper part of the natal cleft of the buttocks. Excision and healing by granulation is still more preferable than other methods of midline closure or using flaps but the healing time is lengthy. Methods: Aim of the work was to assess of the healing promotion effect of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in 30 patients- randomly divided into two groups - being operated for sacrococcygeal PNS by open lay technique at General Surgery Department, Kafr El Sheikh University hospital, Kafr El Sheikh City, Egypt - during the period from December 2018 to December 2019. Results: showed that the accelerated rate of wound healing starting in group (B), which received PRP treatment, was detected in day 10 with a highly significant difference detected in day 15, 20, 25 and 30 postoperative. Conclusions: PRP injection enhances the rate of wound healing and also decreases the postoperative complications of PNS open excision surgery Keywords: pilonidal sinus, PRP, open excision |
