Abstract The thesis aimed to investigate the potential role of co-treatment with doxorubicin (DOX) and verapamil (VRP) or DOX and ginger extract (GE) nanoparticles in experimentally induced hepatocellular carcinoma in mice and to investigate the possible mechanisms behind the potential favorable effect of the cotreatment. Combined treatments with DOX and VRP nanoparticles or DOX and GE nanoparticles showed superior results versus other treatments. Liver sections from cotreatment groups revealed absence of necrosis, enhanced apoptosis and nearly normal hepatic lobule architecture. In conclusion, co-treatment with DOX and VRP nanoparticles or DOX and GE nanoparticles had enhanced anti-cancer activity and decreased cardiotoxicity versus the corresponding free forms EDICATION This thesis is dedicated to: My great teacher and messenger, Muhammad (Peace be upon him), who taught us the purpose of life.
