Abstract

Introduction: Adenoidectomy is one of the commonest operations achieved in the kids worldwide. In 1999 inside the United Kingdom, a complete of sixty thousands patients underwent tonsillectomy without or with adenoidectomy, and another nine thousands underwent adenoidectomy alone. In addition to this surgical work load, medical doctor consultations for the related signs and symptoms of nasal obstruction, loud night breathing and sleep-disordered respiratory account for a significant part of the overall visits to otorhinolaryngology and allergic specialists. The Aim of this study: The aim of this study is to compare the outcome of surgery for adenoidectomy by curette, electrocautery bipolar and coblation methods in the terms of persistance of postoperative symptoms , postoperative pain, amount of intraoperative blood loss, operative duration, poetoperative hemorrhage and velopharynfeal insufficiency in each surgical method. Materials and methods: randomized controlled study (single blinded) carried out on consecutive 90 patients divided into 3 groups :30 underwent curette adenoidectomy ,30 underwent electrocautery bipolar adenoidectomy and 30 underwent coblation adenoidectomy. The traditional method is curette adenoidectomy which will be used as a control method. Results: The coblation adenoidectomy is superior to the conventional method and electrocautry bipolar adenoidectomy in terms of no postoperative symptoms, less postoperative pain, less intraoperative blood loss, no postoperative hemorrhage however cobaltion mehod is more time consuming and with more postoperative neck stiffness than electrocautery and conventional methods.
