Abstract Aim of the work: This work aims to assess the role of antioxidant drugs in treatment of lichen planus by measuring the total oxidant capacity in patients with lichen planus before and after treatment with antioxidants. Subjects and Methods: This study was carried out on 30 subjects, age 20-80 years (mean 40 ±4.75) and of both sexes, who presented to the Outpatient Clinic of Dermatology, STDs, and Andrology department, Faculty of Medicine, Fayoum University. This study was included 30 patients that divided into 3 groups, group1 included 10 LP patients who received systemic corticosteroids for 3months (Prednisolone 0.5 mg/kg/day at morning ), group 2 included 10 LP patients who received systemic antioxidants (selenium ACE once daily). Each tablet of selenium ACE contains: Vitamin A (BetaCarotene and Retinol, 1500 i.u.); Vitamin E (natural source, 30 mg) ; Vitamin C, 90mg; and selenium 100 µg) for 3 months and group 3 included 10 LP patients who received low dose systemic corticosteroids (Prednisolone 10 mg once daily at morning) and antioxidants (selenium ACE tablet once daily) for 3 months. Serum total oxidant capacity (TOC) were measured before treatment and re-measured after 3 months of treatment using the Enzyme- Linked immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) technique. We assess patient clinical improvement in each group according to pruritus and patient satisfaction by visual |
