Abstract Solar energy is a promising renewable energy source that support the .c. global growing demand and has a much lesser negative impact on the environment than conventional fossil fuels. The present work focuses on the implementation of hierarchical control strategy on a multi-generation linear Fresnel reflector solar plant located in Sekem medical center near . the town of Belbis in northern Egypt. Monitoring and controlling of the thermal process variables in the solar plant and the management of the plant operating modes are of critical issues. The developed control strategy consists of three layers, the first layer being the supervisory control layer, responsible for selecting the appropriate operating mode of the plant, taking into account the user demand and weather data. The second layer is concerned with the determination of the reference temperatures by means of a real time optimization technique. The third layer is the regulatory control layer which is responsible for regulating the outlet temperature of the solar collector field and multiple energy outputs. The efficiency of the proposed control strategy is evaluated using a complete plant model developed and implemented In the environment of MATLAB/Simulink using Conventional and renewable energy optimization tool box.
