Abstract The study aimed to spot the light upon the public health significance and the zoonotic importance of salmonellosis in Menoufiya Governorate. A total of 482 samples from poultry giblets (52 liver, 32 gizzard,30 heart), frozen minced meat (58), calves fecal matter (50) and 260 human sample (130 stool sample and 130 serum sample) were collected. All of them were examined bacteriologically, biochemically except the 130 human serum samples. 10 of them had been serotyped and for further confirmation was done on 33 isolates from these sources using PCR to detect presence of Salmonella spp. invA gene and to detect its virulence some of Salmonella virulence genes (mgtC and hilA). As the poultry and frozen minced meat samples were collected from different supermarkets from Shebin El-Kom, while the calves’ fecal matters were collected from different localities in Menoufiya Governorate. On the other hand, for the human samples, both (130 stool sample and 130 serum samples) were collected from Shebin El-kom Fever Hospital, Shebin El Koum Educational Hospital, Menouf fever hospital, and Central Hospital of Qweisna. In this study, the prevalence of Salmonella spp. by culturing on XLD agar media was 71.15% (37/52), 59.4% (19/32), 60% (18/30), 24.14% (14/58), 3% (6/50), 42.3% (55/130) and 52.31% (68/130) in liver, gizzard, heart, frozen minced meat, calves fecal matter and human stool, respectively. By serotyping S.Typhimurium was detected in (liver, heart, frozen minced meat and calves fecal matter), S.Enteritidis (gizzard and human stool samples), while S.kentucky was only detected from human stool samples. On the other hand Widal test on human serum samples revealed the presence of 60.3% (41/68) O antibodies and 72.06% (49/68) H antibodies. Furthermore, PCR was made on 33 isolates, and they gave (100%) for invA, (84.85%) for mgtC and (90.9%) for hilA gene. |
