Abstract

Various synthetic progestogene that are used as contraceptives have been reported to influence lipid and lipoprotein fractions differently. Depomedroxy progesterone acetate (DMPA), a synthetic progestogene and Etonogestrel (implanon) are used by Egyption women as a contraceptive agent. Our study aims to determine the effects of long-term use of Depo-provera and Implanon on Lipid and AMH. Our study was performed on 45 healthy Egyption women aged from 23 to 40 years. They were divided equally into 3 groups; (15 women receiving implanon as test group 1,15 women receivingdepoprovera as test Group2 and15 women receiving mechanical method (IUD, Condom), treated as control. Laboratory measurements were performed to determine serum lipid profile and AMH &Progesterone level showed a highly significant decrease (P≤ 0.001) in the Implanon group and Depoprovera group when compared to control group while Progesterone level showed not significant P=0.604in the Implanon compared with Depoprovera and AMH level showed a significant decrease (P≤ 0.003) in the implanon compared with control, while AMH level showed a highly significant decrease (P≤ 0.001) in the Depoprovera compared with control but the AMH level not significant P= 0.684 in the implanon compared with depoprovera.
