Abstract In this study satisfaction levels using general and specific PROMS were measured. The highest level, was for THA patients (74.5 %) and the lowest level was for HA (33.7%) at one year follow up There were independent predictors of dissatisfaction for example ,increasing the age resulted in decreasing the satisfaction level , while smoking and co morbidities lead to increase dissatisfaction rate . Orthopedic surgeons should realize that osteoarthritis patients have many different expectations of activities of daily life, work and leisure time to perform better after TJA. For evaluation of the clinical outcomes of TJA patients, we suggest choosing PROMs that can be individualized and evaluate more than only activities of daily life, including activities of work and leisure time(100). Patient satisfaction is a personal evaluation of health care services and providers. It is wrong to equate all information derived from patient surveys with patient satisfaction (13). For example, patient satisfaction ratings are distinct from reports about medical service providers and care. Satisfaction ratings are intentionally more subjective; they attempt to pick up a personal evaluation of care that cannot be known by observing care directly. For example, patients can be asked to report the length of time spent with their provider or to rate whether they were given enough time. Although satisfaction ratings are sometimes criticized because they do not correspond perfectly with objective reality or with the perceptions of providers or administrators of care. Researchers believe that differences in satisfaction mirror the realities of care to a substantial extent; these differences also reflect personal preferences as well as expectations (12). In this study, we thought to gain better understanding of predictive factors and subjective reasons for patient dissatisfaction following Total Joint Arthroplasty TJA and Hemi Arthroplasty HA . 74.5% ,71% and 33.7% of patients were satisfied with their THA, TKA and HA procedures respectively after one year follow up . There is limited information about the effect of different factors on TJA outcomes like age ,sex , smoking status and co-morbidities in literature , this study reported on the effect of these factors on patient dissatisfaction. |
