Abstract This study has been carried out on 35clinically suspected OSA and 15 non-smoker healthy control persons. Patients were recruited from of Minia cardiothoracic university hospital during the period from septemper 2018 to septemper 2019, The study was approved by the hospital research ethics board of Minia university. Informed consent was obtained from each patient. The aim of this study was to assessed the value of oxidative stress biomarkers in patients with Obstructive sleep apnea and correlate their levels with disease severity. Exclusion criteria: • Smokers • Medical disorder as left sided heart failure. • (COPD ,ILD andOHS). • Drugs e.g anti-inflammatory , analgesics, insulin , antineoplastic, antipsychotic drugs in the previous 2 weeks before the study. Comlete history taking including symptoms of suggested OSAS were taken, Epworth sleepiness score , STOPBANG score ,pulmonary function tests , ABG oxidative stress biomarkers as(TRX,SOD , MDA,CRP and ESR) were done for all patients and control . All oxidative stress markers were significantly higher in the case group when compared to the control group , And there was a significant correlation between fasting thyrodoxin, malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase and polysomnography results as AHI, RDI, minimal SPo2, number of desaturations less than 90,and ODI the sensitivity of thyrodoxin to detect OSA was100% and Specificity was 93%.,the sensitivity of malondialdehyde to detect OSA was 97% and Specificity was100%.and the sensitivity and specificity of superoxide dismutase to detect OSA were100%. |
