Abstract

ABSTRACT
Forging operation is one of the most important manufacturing operations with fixed mass. This operation is executed using forming with open forging or closed forging or others. Hammers with different capacities are used for achieving such these operations. Closed forging dies that are used in this work contains two parts, which are the upper plate and lower plate. The cavity between those 2 plates is used to form the product part. The design of the cavity between the upper and lower plated for the closed forging dies represent one of the most sophisticated and important operations, as the effectiveness of the die design and its ability to produce correct parts depend on it. The dies are designed by a qualified expert and depend on many databases and knowledge bases. The design operation for a new product is a repetitive operation using many design steps and knowledge. In this work collections, classifications and arrangements of the design rules used in the “Nasr company for forgings” are coded via a visual basic program to represent one of the simplest Expert System rules via (If-Then rules). This expert system is connected via SolidWorks Program using the technique of VBA. Via this research work, a program of closed forging die design is made using a computer in a form of a training program to be applied to the advanced industrial technical schools. This system is experimental. The results indicate that the benefits of using the proposed system save time, effort and reduce errors caused by designers, also, use the results in designing a training program for teachers of advanced industrial technical schools.
