Abstract With the expanding use of the Internet as a way of following up on lessons, conducting research, writing papers and communication with peers, it is not surprising that internet addiction is common among university students. In addition, young adults may be more susceptible to Internet addiction than early or middle adolescents, because as they get older, the supervision from their parents decreases. Also, Researchers found several factors associated with internet addiction in adults including sociodemographic, personality traits and psychiatric symptoms. Therefore, our aim in this study was to enhance the understanding of risk factors behind internet addiction through assessment of personality traits and psychiatric symptoms, or disorders associated with Internet addiction among university students and hence to strengthen preventive strategies First, Approval from Research Ethical Committee was taken before starting the field work. Then, 100 students were recruited from different faculties in Suez Canal University using convenience sampling according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Informed consent was taken from students after explaining to them the aim and objectives of study. Data were collected from students under supervision and through face to face semi-structured interviews. |
