Abstract Iron-Copper alloys have important and different applications and uses in industry. Copper and iron elements are immiscible elements according to the equilibrium phase diagram, but they can form metastable phases by mechanical alloying process. Attritor ball mill was used to setup (MA) alloying technique to prepare iron-copper alloys. In the present work, alloys of Fe100.x-Cux powders for concentrations of (x=40, 15 % atomic) were prepared and studied. After preparation of each sample, X-ray was performed to both systems. The morphology of the samples were investigated by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). To investigate the thermal stability of the obtained solid solution, sample of Fe60-Cu40 and Fe85-Cu15 after 20 hours of milling, were compressed in tablets annealed at temperatures 2000 C, 3000 C and 4000 C for one hour, followed by cooling in furnace. Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) was used for magnetic measurements and magnetic properties measuring for each sample. |
