Abstract

Transition is a process by which the individual exits from one stage of
life and enters the other one. Role transition means to pass from one role to
another and it will accompany with change of thought, behavior, and
performance. Transition in nursing is a period in which newly graduated
nurses involve learning, adaptation, and socialization process in their work
place and adapt to their new role. Intern-nurses are the future of nursing
profession therefore; there is an immediate need to focus on the support they
receive during their transition. As it will not only help them, but it will
strengthen the nursing profession and aid in creating a more supportive work
environment. This will lead to better patient care and improved
organizational outcomes.
Aim of the study
This study aimed to assess role transition among intern nurses at
Menofia University
Study objective
Assess the intern nurses’ perceptions regarding their role during
internship year.,
Results:
The main findings of the present study revealed the following:
• The highest percentage of the intern nurses was from technic
institute of nursing, most of them were female nurses and Also hav
no previous experience in working in any hospitals and have n
attended any training courses .
. ~
• The majority of the studied subjects (55.52%) were moderatel
perceived their role.
• Almost fifty of the studied subjects perceived moderate role transitior
in organization and support and role preparation domains (48.73% an~
52.88%) respectively.
• The majority of studied subjects (67.07%) perceived high role
competency.
• Moreover, role competencies category followed by role preparation
and organization and support role was highly perceived by intern
nurses in Nursing College than in Technical Institute.

preparation category and previous experience of intern nurses as p.
