Abstract

Background: Stress has a bad impact on mental, physical, psychological health of teacher and it can interfere with job performance and job satisfaction. This study measured the frequency of work related stress among teachers and studied the different sociodemographic characheristics and comorbidities among teachers with different grades of stress , anxiety and depression.
Objective: To measure the frequency of work related stress, anxiety and depression among school teachers in governmental schools in kobri el koba district and to study sociodemographic characteristics &combordities among teachers with different grades of stress anxiety and depression
participants and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 400 teachers from governmental school in kobri elkoba district .a questionnaire prepared by a group of experts from faculties of medicine, education and faculty of women ain shams university was used to detect the sociodemographic charachteristics of the teachers and to which they are exposed to risk factors in school environment and DASS 42 (Depression, Anxiety, stress scales) inventory scales were used to measure stress, anxiety, depression levels.
Results: shows that most frequent age of the participants was from 40-49 years old and most of them were females , married, living inside cairo , non smokers and not practicing exercise .96.8% of the participating teachers are found to have stress (16,8 % mild,43,5% moderate,22.5 %severe and 14 % extremely severe ) ,58.5% of them were suffering from anxiety and 48.8% of them were suffering from depression .
Female, residence outside cairo, HTN and DM were significantly more frequent among those with stress ,anxiety and depression . Other variables don’t show significant association .
Conclusion: the degree of work related stress ,anxiety and depression among teachers in governmental schools in kobri el koba district is considerably high. This indicates that we are in need to do Further studies on teachers for better assessment of the epidemiology of work related stress ,anxiety and depression.
Recommendations: Intervention studies are highly recommended as the prevelance of stress, anxiety and depression in the present study is considered extremely high and need urgent intervention.
