Abstract INTRODUCTION Maize is considered one of the most important food and industrial grain crops in many regions of the world. It ranks the third in the world after wheat and rice in terms of area planted. In 2018 the area grown by this crop in Egypt was 0.75 Million hectares (1.76 million feddans) with an annual grain production of 6 Million metric tons and an average productivity of 8 Mg ha-1 (23.8 ardabs/feddan). (One feddan =4200 m2 and one ardab = 140 Kg). (FAO 2018). Maximizing food and agricultural production, depends mainly on promoting high yielding maize hybrids to cover the mounting consumption of maize. This depends mostly on the utilization of hybrid vigor in maize breeding programs. So, the new hybrids which were come from hybridization (F1) may be selected when, it had the superiority relative than check hybrid. Diallel mating designs |
