The Aim: this study carried out to evaluate the effect of play interventions on postoperative pain intensity among children with abdominal surgeries. Design: A quasi- experimental design was used to conduct. Sampling: A convenient sample of 60 children having abdominal surgeries with their mothers were participated in the study. Settings: This study was conducting in Pediatric Surgical Department at Specialized Pediatric Hospital and Benha University Hospital in Benha city. Tools of Data Collection: the required data were collected through:1- A Structured Interview Questionnaire to collect the personal characteristics for children, their mothers and children’s medical data, 2- three Pain Assessment Scales to assess intensity and pain responses behaviors of postoperative children (3) Pain Scales: pain intensity, pain line and behavior during pain. Results: the results revealed that, children who received play interventions had lower intensity of postoperative pain than those in the control group. Children who participated in play intervention sessions lower behavior postoperative pain as a behavioral response to pain than children in the control group. There were statistically significant differences between children of both control and study groups regarding their pain intensity level in second and third postoperative days pre / post play interventions by using different pain scales. Conclusion: The current study concluded that, play was an appropriate and effective intervention for reducing intensity of postoperative pain among children with abdominal surgeries. Recommendation: Emphasizing the importance of play interventions for nurses in caring for children postoperatively to alleviate their pain |
