An introduction to the study:
The upper Egyptian governorates are considered of the most suffering ones among the governorates of the A.R.E and this is clearly apparent in poverty, unemployment, ongoing rising of high prices as well as sharp deterioration in public amenities and services represented in education ,health, housing, transport, sanitation, unhealthy water and many other things specially in villages, nags besides the deprived slums as well as suburbs of the simplest rights. The illiterate women is one of the most suffering sectors that suffers from poverty evils particularly in the countryside and deprived areas.
She always needs the one that provides and fulfils her simplest daily needs that maintain her honour that is because there is no available source of income for her specially if that women is a breadwinner, divorced or a patient. Poverty is one of the complex problems that leads to the deterioration of the general state of the illiterate woman. Sohag governorate is one of the central upper Egyptian governorates that suffers from several problems such as illiteracy, poverty, population explosion as well as its being an expelling population governorate .Farming is the main activity in the governorate and the farmers form the majority of the poor in it and in the countryside in general. The illiteracy problem may be one of the most dangerous problems that faces the women in the most needy areas and the rural areas in particular .Illiteracy currently constitutes one of the biggest evils that catch the Egyptian society if it is measured by the rapid and enormous progress in various knowledge fields.
The study problem:-
Illiteracy is considered one of the main problems that most countries generally suffer from and developing ones in particularly where it hinders individuals’ growth, disrupts the progress of societies and delays the development plans and programs. Illiteracy represents a problem to the one socially and knowledgeably since he isolates himself from the rapid development in the human knowledge quantitatively and qualitatively. He can’t benefit fully from the available social services in his community as well as his inability to practise his political rights that require one’s ability to express his opinion to others in a written and an oral, clear, understandable and persuasive way that isn’t attainable for an illiterate person. Illiteracy is one of the biggest challenges that faces nations in which it spreads that it hinders its movement towards fulfilling the requirements of society and limits its ability to build and produce. It stops on its way for the developing changes that the modern civilization requires .Ignorance and illiteracy may cause the illiterate one unintentional several problems.
One of these problems was what the researcher experienced on the realistic land in her village, Banaweet, when a son working in the police force exploits the illiteracy of both parents and made them sign an official waiver for their accommodation home justifying it by preparing their papers for Umra at his work. After a period of time,a quarrel occurred between his wife and his mother, so the waiver contract appeared and he sacked both parents out of their house in which they put all their possessions in addition to the debts they are still paying for .Furthermore, it makes whoever suffers from it in continuous fear and worry about the future ,which emphasizes its danger specially in rural communities like villages and nags .It is the ghost that threatens the women in particular as it obliges her to be submitted to following the man doing whatever he wishes from her and strips her of most of her rights claiming fearing about her and protecting her .
