Abstract

Ultrasonography is considered to be one of the most valuable diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine. This study was performed on three groups of dogs. group (1) dogs with nephrotoxicity group (2) dogs with cystitis and group (3) control group. The aim of present study was to assess the diagnostic value of ultrasonography in naturally and experimentally occurring urinary diseases conditions in dogs.
Blood samples were collected for measurement of serum creatinine ,blood urea nitrogen ,urea, cholesterol ,triglycerides, total protein ,Albumin ,Globulin, A/G ratios, serum amyloid A and haptoglobin. Nephrotoxic dogs showed a significant increase in serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, urea, cholesterol, triglycerides, serum amyloid A and haptoglobin also a significant decrease (P<0.05) in albumin, total protein, globulins, and A/G ratios was also recorded in nephrotoxic dogs. Dogs with cystitis showed a significant increase (P<0.05) cholesterol triglycerides, serum amyloid A and haptoglobin. Significant decrease in (P<0.05) serum albumin, total protein, globulins and A/G ratios.
Clinical, physical examination biochemical analysis, macroscopic changes, histopathology and ultrasonography were synergistic for definitive and final diagnosis of clinical cases .Sonographic examination of the affected kidneys in dogs was changed to show greater echogenicity of the renal cortex as compared with the liver parenchyma. Sonographic examination of the affected urinary bladder in dogs with cystitis urinary bladder shows tiny anechoic area which represents urinary bladder lumen surrounded by very large hyper echoic area represented increase the thickness of urinary bladder wall.
