Abstract

Conduct disorder (CD) is mental disorder characterized by repetitive and persistent aggressive or nonaggressive behavior in which basic rights of others or social norms are violated. Self –esteem is generally low, and an inability to develop social relationships and lack of concern for others may not be present (ICD-10, 2018).
Adolescents with conduct problems often have difficulties forming and maintaining positive relationships with their peers. A number of studies have documented a causal role of peer rejection along with aggressive adolescent behavior in prediction of later psychosocial problems (Dalwani et al., 2015). Aggressive adolescents rejected by their peers, are at particular risk for developing a range of conduct problems throughout adolescent hood and adolescence, while peer-acceptance seems to counteract a negative development in adolescent with aggression (Koirala, Subba & Lopchan 2017).
The present study aimed to assess the psychosocial problems among adolescents associated with conduct disorders, through assessing the psychosocial problems among adolescents associated with conduct disorders and identifying the behavioral problems among adolescents associated with conduct disorders.
The study design is exploratory descriptive study design. It was conducted at Adolescent psychiatric Out-Patient Clinic at Abbassia hospital for psychiatric and mental health: This clinic provides services for adolescents suffering from psychiatric disorders. The setting is one building, one floor eleven rooms for psychometric study, behavioral modification, and individual therapy, and group therapy, nurses to arrange the patients’ sheets, social workers interviews and examination by doctors. The clinic was including a garden for parents and their adolescent. Data collected started on the first of May and was completed by the end of July in the year 2019. A convenient sample was used, the sample was 120 adolescent with conduct disorders according to inclusion criteria.
Tools of data collection:
Self-administered structured questionnaire sheet for the adolescent with conduct disorders including; data about adolescent: It includes, age, sex, the adolescent arrangement between siblings, educational level, the job, monthly income, residence, and medical history. Psychosocial problems scale: this scale was developed by the researcher and divided into three subscales as follows: The first subscale is used to assess psychological problems consists of self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and stress. The second subscale is used to assess social problems consists of social support and relationship problems. The third subscale is used to assess behavioral problems.
Results:
 The mean age of the studied adolescents was (14.9±1.4)
 65% of the studied adolescents were males.
 55% of the studied adolescents in preparatory school
 31% of the studied adolescents were working and learning
 95% of the studied adolescents from residing in urban areas
 54% of the studied adolescents have low self-esteem
 73% of the studied adolescents have a high level of Psychological distress
 53% of the studied adolescents have a high level of psychological problems.
 66% of the studied adolescents having a low level of social support
 52% of the studied adolescents having a high level of relationship problems
 57% of the studied adolescents having a high level of social problems
 72% of the studied adolescents have a high level of behavioral problems
 There is a highly statistically significant relationship between the educational level of the study sample and their total score of Psychological problems (p<0.01)
 There is a highly statistically significant relation between the Psychological and social problems of the study sample and their total score of behavioral problems (p<0.01).
Conclusion:
The current study concluded that the mean age for the patients included in the study was (14.9±1.4), more than three fifth of them were male. More than half of them were in preparatory school. More than one quarter were working and learning, and most of them reside urban areas. Furthermore, more than half of study sample have high level of psychological problems (more than half of study sample have low self-esteem and nearly three quarter of study sample have high level of psychological distress), more than half of the study sample are having high level of social problems (two third of study sample have low level of social support and more than half of study sample have high level of relationship problems) , and three fifths of study samples have high level of behavioral problems. There is highly statistically significant relation between the Psychological and social problems of the study sample and their total score of behavioral problems.
Recommendations:
On the basis of the present study, the following recommendations can be drawn:
 Utilization of our study finding in designing and implementing counseling programs to:
• Improve Nurses skills to how to deal with psychosocial problems of adolescents with conduct disorders.
• Improve parenting skills to manage adolescent behavior effectively without use physical punishment.
• Improve the quality of parent-adolescent interaction (e.g. having parents more involved in their adolescent’s activities, improve parent-adolescent communication, and increase parental warmth and responsiveness).
• Educate teachers about effectively behavior management for students with conduct disorders.
 Extend the duration of the study for follow up of these cases and detect more problems that they suffering from.
 Extend the study to include other psychiatric hospitals to determine the total problem in our society.
