Abstract

Partial tear of ACL is common, it represents about 28-35% of knee traumatic injuries. About 84% of partial tears are symptomatic. Symptoms represented in giving way, pain, and swelling.
Conservative treatment in these symptomatic tears is often unsatisfactory especially in young active patients with high functional demand and can progress to a complete tear with an increased incidence of meniscal injury.
After the failure of direct repair of the partially torn ACL, Standard ACL reconstruction has been a frequently used procedure, sacrificing the residual portion of ACL.
Preserving the remnants of ACL is good for biology, vascularity, and proprioception, as it already contains blood supply for rapid revascularization and ligamentization of the graft; it also contains proprioceptive receptors that are preserved for a good proprioceptive sensation of the knee joint and help in early reinnervation of the newly inserted graft.
In this study, twenty patients were evaluated and diagnosed with a partial ACL tear, confirmed by arthroscopic assessment, and were treated by single-bundle augmentation preserving the intact fibers of the ACL.
Patients were re-evaluated according to Lysholm score after augmentation. There was a very high significant improvement in the Lysholm score, knee stability, and symptoms.
Single-bundle Augmentation can be considered a good modality for the treatment of Symptomatic partial tears in young active patients with high functional demand.
