Abstract

Recently, the SPG20 biomarker reported in colorectal cancer and adenomas with a sensitivity of 89% and 78%, respectively and a specificity of 99%. Also, Knockdown of STK31 results in a significant suppression of tumorigenicity in colon cancer cells, while overexpression of STK31 promotes an undifferentiated CRC status. This study included 50 Colorectal cancer cases and 50 control. Cases were obtained from the Medical Oncology Department at South Egypt Cancer Institute (SECI), assiut university from 2018-2020. Our objectives were to determine whether the magnitude of circulating SPG20 and STK31 genes could distinguish between patients with CRC versus healthy individuals. In addition, we aimed to analyze the correlation between SPG20 and STK31 expression patterns and tumor stage and grade in CRC patients Our study showed that the percentage of up regulation of STK31 was significantly higher in cases (77.8%) than in controls (22.2%) (p=0.000). Also, SPG20 was significantly higher in cases (77.4%) than controls (22.6%) (p=0.000). There were no significant differences between cases and control in regard to demographic data in our study. Also our study found that there was significant strong positive correlation between the two tumor biomarkers STK31 and SPG 20. There was no significant relationship between the expression of STK31 and demographic &clinical data & pathological and lab characteristics.
