Abstract

Summary and conclusion Hip dysplasia is a dynamic, mechanical disorder of congenital origin that may cause structural damage to the hip. Abnormal hip anatomy results in abnormal hip mechanical characters, which subsequently causes more anatomical abnormalities. In this study, the results of correction of acetabular dysplasia using PAO in late childhood were assessed. This work is a prospective case series study of 22 patients, in the period from October 2018 to October 2020 with a minimum follow up of six months. Symptomatic patients with radiographic evidence of acetabular dysplasia, who had an adequate hip range of motion (at least 80% of the normal side ROM), with the age between 10 and 18 years, and had a closed triradiate cartilage, were included. The presence of a neoacetabulum, or evident hip dislocation in the x-ray, worsening of hip congruency on abduction, and patients with limited hip ROM, were excluded from this study. The average age of the included patients in this study was 15.22 years, the average BMI of the included patients was 22.8 kg/m2. There were 13 girls (59.1 %), and 9 boys (40.9 %). The female: male ratio was nearly 3:2. Pre-operatively, all hips in this study were classified radiographically according to the Severin classification to determine the degree of dysplasia. Eight hips (36.4%) were grade IV, nine hips (40.9%) were grade III, and five hips (22.7%) was grade II
