Abstract Soil contamination with oil is not only harmful to the environment, but it is also detrimental to associated buildings and foundations. However, in this thesis, experimental and numerical studies of laterally loaded pile groups near an oil-contaminated sand slope have been conducted in order to estimate the ultimate lateral capacity. The model tests comprise studies of group configurations, embedment length of the pile, oil content and location of pile groups relative to the slope crest. Pile group of 1*2, 2*2 and 2*3 with center-to-center pile spacing 4DPand thickness of the contaminated layer equal 5Dp have been considered. |
