Abstract
Epidemiology of warts among primary school students in Bilkas, Dakahlia Governorate...Warts are benign cutaneous growths which develop on various body parts and have different forms. They result from viral infection. They are infectious and very common. The majority of persons will have one at some point in lives. Although warts might develop at any age, they are the commonest in children and teenagers. Cutaneous viral warts are among the most commonly treated skin conditions in children, mostly resolving spontaneously within two years, patients (and their parents) often request treatment as warts can be unsightly and cause discomfort. The most important risk factors of Warts are Close contact with infected persons, and activities like nails biting and walking barefoot. There is significant rise in warts prevalence in rural Egyptian students swimming in water channels, children and teenagers who often use public showers, for instance after sports or at swimming pool, people with family members having warts, school children who have many classmates with warts and people who are immunocompromised. There are six major types of warts: Common warts, planter warts, flat warts, filiform warts, periungual warts and genital warts. Diagnosis of Warts is mainly clinical. Occasionally a biopsy is necessary to confirm the diagnosis. Viral typing is rarely done by using polymerase chain reaction followed by southern blot hybridization means could be used to confirm the diagnosis. This study targeted Warts and focused on primary school students who attended Al-Imam Al-Shafey, Mahfouza, Mohamed Awad, Rashid language, Al-Nahda , Dimelash primary school in Bilkas district, Egypt.
