Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of impacted canine on the maxillary sinus volume. Twenty seven CBCT scans (54 maxillary sinuses) of patients who had a unilateral impacted maxillary canine were included. The volumes of the maxillary sinuses were measured for both the impaction and the normal sides. from this study it was concluded that: 1. The impacted maxillary canine affects the volume of the maxillary sinus which in hence affect its functions. 2. Females had significantly higher prevalence of impacted canine than males. 3. Left side, and palatal unilateral impactions showed a high incidence of impaction than right side and labial unilateral impacted canine respectively 4. The males had greater sinus volumes than females. 5. The female’s maxillary sinus volume negatively affected by canine impaction more than that of the males. 6. The volume of the maxillary sinus was negatively affected by impaction more when the impaction was on the right side and palatally positioned than the left side and buccally positioned respectively. |
