Abstract Periodontitis is the most common inflammatory oral disease that destruction in the supporting tissues of the teeth. The present investigation studied the effect of silver and gold nanoparticles on the periodontal ligament of albino rats’ incisors with induced experimental periodontitis. Materials and methods: A total of 24 adult male albino rats with body weight ranging from 150 -180 grams were used in the study; they were divided as follows: group 1 (control group): Consisted of 6 animals, were injected intraperitoneally with distilled water and served as controls. group 2 (periodontitis group): Consisted of 6 animals. Ligatures were placed around the cervix of mandibular central incisors under general anesthesia for induction of experimental periodontitis. They were subjected to intraperitoneal injection with distilled water three times a week during the time of the experiment which lasted for 4 weeks (the total time of the experiment was 6 weeks). group 3: Nano silver (AgNPs) group: Consisted of 6 animals, induction of periodontitis was carried out as in group 2. After two weeks the animals were subjected to intraperitoneal injection with silver Nano-particles (AgNPs) three times a week for 4 weeks. group 4: Nano gold (NG) group: Consisted of 6 animals, induction of experimental periodontitis was carried out the same as in group 2. |
