Abstract Recently, the distribution systems have earned a lot of interest by the researchers because they play a crucial role in the power system quality and planning. The amount of power losses in power system networks is relatively higher in distribution networks that operate at lower voltage levels (medium voltage and low voltage) and high current flow. Losses amount is around 13% of the total power generation. So, many efforts have been made to reduce these losses. Capacitor banks (C-Bs) and distributed energy resources (DERs) are two powerful components employed for this purpose and should be optimally allocated to maximize their impact. C-Bs or/and DERs allocation problems include determination of optimal locations and sizes of both of them. Many technical and economic benefits can be achieved by solving these problems to operate the distribution system satisfactorily and secure. These benefits include improving system voltage profile, decreasing voltage deviation, improving power factor, decreasing energy losses, system reliability enhancement, and increasing the annual net savings. |
