Abstract 6. CONCLUSION Emergency cases especially in traffic accidents need a comprehensive toxicology screen that can be rapid and reliable. Although false positive result can be retracted and confirmed through further tests, false negative report cannot be tolerated in emergency context. The screening protocol developed in the present study takes only 13 minutes of instrumental analysis with 100% sensitivity and specificity and can detect several drugs of abuse simultaneously. The extraction method developed in the present investigation succeeded in retaining most of the present drugs in urine matrix even at very low concentrations with a high precision and repeatability indices. The method was validated and can be directly applied in labs of interest. Chloroform and TBME constitute an adjusted polarity solvent mixture for extraction of drugs from urine. LLE is feasible and cheap for most local laboratories and do not require special training. The instrumental conditions in the present investigation were optimized and precursor ions of target analytes were selected for better resolution, however every lab can adjust the instrument criteria according to its conditions. The current study limitation may be the cost and instrumentation of analysis. The present investigation recommends implementation of this protocol in EU of major hospitals in Egypt and at forensic and toxicological labs. |
