Abstract ESRD is an increasing problem worldwide and affecting patients and health systems to provide treatment strategies to compensate for lost renal functions ( renal replacement therapy and renal transplantation) especially in developing countries that suffer from shortage of funds and resource to provide facilities for these treatment strategies. No dialysis equals death for patients with ESRD, these patients need urgent dialysis even before renal transplantation as dialysis is urgent to prevent accumulation of toxic metabolites in the blood. In this study we evaluated the insertion of tunnelled hemodialysis catheters either by the de novo technique for insertion or by over the wire exchange technique as regard to safety of insertion and efficacy during dialysis. Aim of the work The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of insertion of tunnelled hemodialysis catheters by de novo insertion technique and over the wire exchange technique. Patients and methods This prospective study was done at Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department, Tanta university hospitals in the period between May 2020 and May 2021 on 50 patients diagnosed as End Stage Renal Disease (ERSD) in need for tunnelled hemodialysis catheters insertion divided into 2 groups; (the first group) 22 de novo insertion of tunnelled dialysis cathetersand (the second group) 28 over the wire exchange, with technique of insertion discussed before in details. |
