Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the most common lesion of bovine respiratory diseases (BRD) among calves, early prediction of BRD and evaluate the passive transfer and the recovery rate by external thoracic ultrasonography. The study was carried out in Al-salhia farm, Alsharqia governorate. A total number of 74 dairy calves of both sex aged from one to 90 day. The preweaned dairy calves were examined for BRD using thoracic ultrasonography score (TUS), calf respiratory scoring criteria (CRS) and had blood samples checked for passive immunity transfer status, blood parameters, proteinogram and haptaglobin. Animals having five or more of CRS and others which having one or more of TUS were considered sick. Prevalence of lung consolidation increased from the second week of age and peaked by ten weeks of age and there are a significant increase in total protein, globulin and haptaglobin and decrease in albumin. The study revealed that calves suffered from failure of passive transfer (FPT) (Brix% < or = 8.4) more Susceptible to BRD. The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of two anti-inflamatory drugs (meloxicam or flunixin meglumine) in conjunction with antibiotic therapy (tildipirosin) in calves suffered from subclinical BRD there are decrease in TUS and absence to lung lesion.
