Abstract Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy which is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality and pre-term delivery, especially in low and middle income countries. Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal death in developing countries. Preeclampsia is a multisystem disorder of pregnancy which is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide. The cardinal clinical features of the condition are hypertension and proteinuria occurring after 20 weeks gestation in women who were not previously known to be hypertensive Indirect evidence for impaired placental perfusion in pregnancies destined to develop preeclampsia has been provided by Doppler studies of the uterine arteries which showed increased pulsatility index (PI) during the second trimester and also in the first trimester of pregnancy High flow resistance in the capillaries of terminal villi leads to a low end-diastolic velocity in the umbilical artery and a subsequent hypoxia. And during chronic fetal hypoxia there is continuous reduction of cerebral vascular resistance resulting in decrease Middle cerebral artery resistance index values gradually. |
