Abstract
This thesis comprises five chapters. The first is the introduction which reviewed the recent methods in the literature for synthesis and reactions of Methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-α-Dglucopyranoside from carbohydrate precursors.The second chapter involves a detailed discussion of the results obtained by the candidate throughout the work; in which methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-α-D-glucopyranoside 80 was prepared.Acetylation of 80 with a mixture of acetic anhydride and pyridine furnished the 4,6-O.81 diacetate-2,3 glucopyranoside-D-methyl-α-benzylidene 82 diol-2,3 glucopyranoside-D-methyl-α-benzylidene-O-4,6 gave 80 Periodate oxidation of
