Abstract
Sildenafil citrate is commonly known, in publics as Viagra or Revatio. It belongs to a family of drugs called phosphodiesterase inhibitor type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Sildenafil citrate was the first oral drug approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) . Phosphodiesterase inhibitor type 5 (PDE5) selectively reduces erectile dysfunction and altitude sickness since 1998. It was discovered by accident while attempting to produce a drug to treat coronary heart disease .
Clomipramine is a dibenzazepine-derivative tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) and is a potent serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI).Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA). It is used for the treatment of obsessive–compulsive disorder, panic disorder, major depressive disorder, and chronic pain. It may decrease the risk of suicide in those over the age of 65.
The current study was conducted to investigate the adverse effects of long term administration of sildenafil and/or chlomipramine on heart, liver and male fertility.
Sixty adult male albino rats weighing 160- 180 g were used in this study.
